Every Rose Has Its Thorn

Hi.

The roses are graded and put away, the rabbit fence has been raised, everything is out of the ground that needs to be, and things are being put into storage for the winter. This all means we are back to a five day work week. I had forgotten what it was like to have Saturday off. I could make plans on a Friday night and actually have time to clean my apartment on the weekend! (8+ weeks of just "picking up", you can imagine things got out of hand)

Besides working on the nursery, I thought my work for the Canadian Artists Rose Consortium would be winding down for the season. This summer, I worked on selecting and gaining rights to our newest rose, Bill Reid. Keep your eyes peeled this spring people! Hardy for zone 2!
Beginning of the month, I finished an article I was asked to write by the Consortium, telling the history of rose breeding in Canada. It is to be published along with the release of the new rose--trade magazines, POP materials, etc. Its definitely going to have a limited audience, but is exciting nonetheless. The article has been well received, and I have since been asked to write a few more articles covering similar topics. Hopefully this will bring in some more cash this winter.

Besides working, I've been attempting to be social. Its hard to get out there and join in when you know that you are going to be doing something that you don't really enjoy. By this, I mean to say, most of my friends are philistines. It's just hard to force myself out of the apartment when I know we're probably just going to watch a movie starring Will Ferrell. I don't usually hate this hard. In their defense, they are decent people, and we do have some good times. These days, Mandie has been a godsend. We go out for ethnic food, chat about religion and design, and take in some of the culture that Niagara has to offer. This weekend, we hope to convince everyone to come to the Shisha lounge!

If I were there, I would tots come. I met an australian guy who thinks its australian to shorten words like that... I told him he's wrong. It started with the bakkers in Ontario.
And again, CONGRATS ON THE TO-BE-PUBLISHED ARTICLE!!!
I miss you friend.

I met those people! They were nice. But I know what you mean. We don't exactly have a lot of friends in our area either...

Glad to keep hearing from you!
